Many people in our lives sometimes do extraordinary
things, complete enormous tasks, overcome insurmountable obstacles or just
celebrate a special event. You may want to join in their glee and
try to show your well wishes with a gift. The size or expense of the
gift should be comparable to the event. If they were just elected as
President of a Fortune 500 company, you would get a really big gift.
If they were elected President of the PTA, a small practical gift would
suffice.
The type and expense of the gift will also be affected by
your relationship to the person. The different relationships are as
follows:
-
Close family member or best friend: A larger or more
expensive gift is appropriate.
-
Family member or friend, but not extremely close: A
smaller token of your appreciation would be fine. You probably
need not spend over $15 or $20.
-
If you are a work-place friend or acquaintance, take
up a collection of other people in the office and get them a gift with
the money you receive.
One last note on congratulatory gifts: Try to tie in the
theme of the event to the gift. If it is a promotion at work, get
them something work related. If they have passed a very hard science
examination, get them something to do with science.
